How it all started...
Let me begin by telling my favorite joke–
“Want to make God laugh? Tell Him your plans.” That joke sums up the start of the store.
Our Story
In February 2020, after learning that the place where I was selling my one-of-a-kind clocks was closing, I got the idea to open a store of my own. Denise Perkins, another vendor, expressed an interest in helping me with the new shop and with my family’s support, I leased a 100-year-old gas station and began renovating.
In March, while I was busy working on the store, NYS shut down non-essential businesses for two-months because of a pandemic. Fortunately, hardware stores were considered essential so supplies could be purchased, and work on the new store could continue. The cleanup and renewal of the building was a true labor of love for me, but I didn’t do it alone. I had help from my husband Mike, two kids Eli and Lydia, mom Joan, my unofficial business partner and staging guru Denise, and many friends.
Kellys One of a Kinds and Friends officially opened May 15, 2020, with a celebration filled with balloons, masks, and social distancing. No matter how we started, we will always believe that God blessed this project from the beginning, and we will always choose “Faith Over Worry”.
